What is a Continuous Extract Ventilation' system?
A ‘Continuous Extract System’ is a ventilation system that operates without human intervention and when set correctly will operate and self adjust to suit the conditions in the home.
An effective retro-fit solution for existing dwellings is what is known as a ‘De-centralised Mechanical Extract Ventilation (dMEV) system’.
The simplest way of describing a dMEV is to think of it as an 'extract fan' that is permanently running. The unit will include a humidistat sensor that will adjust the fan speed to suit the conditions (i.e. in a bathroom it will increase in speed when humidity is sensed and continue at a higher than standard (trickle) rate all the time it senses high humidity levels).
An 'Intermittent' fan on the other hand will only run when it is manually engaged i.e. via a light switch or pull-cord.
Despite running at lower speeds the dMEV system is one of the solutions for retro-fitting ventilation specifiers. These fans can cost as little as £6.50/year to run and when installed correctly can move enough air to reduce or remove condensation & mould from a home.
As an independent solutions provider and specifier I am able to offer a variety of different ‘fans’ from the leading manufacturers that will suit your property and issue perfectly every-time.
